Vocabulary

• abruptly = change or action in a very sudden (often unpleasant way)

e.g. If you start eating a lot of fiber abruptly, you could get gas and bloating.

        He paused abruptly as he found something familiar through the window.c

• fantic (n. slang) = fan

e.g. I'm a fiber fantic. I'm a manga fantic.

• magnanimous = being kind and generous towards enemies

e.g.  She said she wouldn't be so magnanimous next time I came late.

• resilience = the ability to recover quickly from difficulties or setbacks. 

e.g. Our finance system shows promising resilience. 

• courtesy= politeness, respect

e.g.  She attended the meeting courtesy of the sponsor company.

         As a courtesy, you should have informed me ealier. 

•  raid (v./n.) = (initial) a sudden armed attack

e.g.  He was killed in an air raid.

• whereabouts （n./adv./conj) = the place where a person or thing is (下落，行踪）

e.g.  You have to account for your whereabouts last night.

   Whereabouts are you living in France? 

• up front (upfront)= in advance  (usually payment)/ openly or publicly

e.g.  A one-time upfront payment.

She is very upfront about her desire.

• Pull for = be attracted/support

e.g.  girls, don't  pull for that chat up line (搭讪）

• tumultuous (adj.)= loud (applause) / change, uncertain, or chaotic condition

e.g.  After the tumultuous events of 1990, Europe was completely transformed. 

• riot (n,) = an occasion that a lot of people behave noisily and violently, like a protest

e.g. Food protests and riots have erupted in more than 30 countries.

• Schwa= 弱读 （usually 'a' or 'e', for 'or' or 'er' end words)

e.g. doctor, teacher, for, was... an>uh

• contraction= 缩略词/sth becomes smaller and shorter 收缩

e.g. 

• multitude= lot

e.g. The city has multitudes of problems.

• homicide= killer

e.g. Romantic homicide.

• pit stop = xie jiao dian / fang bian yi xia

e.g. Um... do you think we can make a pit stop?

• restless= not calm, anxious, cannot sleep well

e.g. When I feel bored or restless, I'll often pull out my phone and start scrolling through videos on social media.

• alleviate = reduce (the problem), mitigate

e.g. This medicine can help alleviate the pain.

         Do you know how to alleviate the insomnia?

tipsy = drunk

• compliant = If you say that someone is compliant, you mean they willingly do what they are asked to do. / obedient

e.g. I thought that you would be compliant.

      This action is compliant with the law.

• accelerate = speed up = expedite 

e.g. Let's expedite the protocol.

• allegation = A statement saying that someone has done something wrong
